MY
OUTLOOK
Ever
since I was young I knew there was more than what was
in front of me. I would take long walks and look at all the houses. Not
just at them really, but more through them. What I liked to call
looking beyond the front yard. I liked to imagine what went on, on the
other side. I was always interested in what motivated people, behind
the fence. There’s always another way to look at something,
and I was
always looking for as many new ways as possible, an adventure of the
senses, the mind, the body and the spirit. I’ve taken these
beliefs and
discoveries a step further and have decided to help people realize
their motivations, dreams and possibilities. I find true energy and
excitement when people can see the potential that lies within them.
HOW I FOUND COACHING
You may be wondering how I found coaching or decided I wanted to be a
coach. Well, I always knew I wanted to work with people, so I tried
taking the medical route combined with my other passion, sports and
health. This led me to sports medicine where I found many opportunities
to learn and grow, but something was still missing. I moved into a
teaching role hoping this would be more of what I was looking for, but
yet again, something was missing. It was around this time that I read
an article about coaching in a fitness magazine. I immediately began
researching everything I could about becoming a coach, the schools and
more. The more I learned the more I fell in love with everything life
coaching is. I bought books and programs and signed up for newsletters.
I couldn’t get enough. I had finally found what I had been
searching
for.
SCHOOLS AND ASSOCIATIONS
I graduated from Eastern Oregon University with a degree in Psychology
and a degree in Athletic Training. I also received my Athletic Training
Certification through the National Athletic Trainers’
Association Board
of Certification (NATABOC). I am certified through the Institute for
Life Coach Training
foundational course and am continueing on to get my Professional Coach
Certification (PCC) through International
Coach Federation(ICF).

FAMILY
Can I just start by saying that I love my family? I can…?
Wow… thanks!
I LOVE MY FAMILY! I’ll start by telling you about my parents.
Gary and
Kathy are my loving parental units. They are both retired and exploring
the new world of life without fulltime careers and kids running amuck
in the house. My mother is an extraordinary artist and my father is
fix-it-upper and honey-doer. He keeps an amazing yard with the most
perfect grass while my mom lets her artist side decorate their
beautiful home. She is also now offereing water color classes to
beginner and seasoned artists. Since us kids are gone, they have adopted
two
new “kids”
to take our place. The kittens names are D. D. and Snowball (who
sometimes gets called dirtball when she’s in trouble) I have
one
brother named Ken who is now married to one of my favorite people in
the world, Holly. What a great addition to our family. They had a
beautiful baby boy named Kamden James Wood on July 2, 2005. An exciting
adventure for all of us! My nephew rocks!!
In addition to the most amazing family ever, I have had the opportunity
to meet my birthparents. I was adopted at a VERY young age and in May
of 2004 I was contacted by the agency my adoption was through saying
that my birthparents were interested in meeting me. I met both my
biological mother and father, not to mention my two half brothers, who
are about twice my size each. I am blessed by the love and care I
receive from each and every one of the people in my life.

ADVENTURES
As I am sure you can tell I have quite a love for adventure. Be it on a
mountain or in growing and discovering in my life. I would like to
share with you my most recent adventures. I hope you enjoy them as I do!
My current adventures
are…
Surfing!!
While I
was in Hawaii (July 2008) I took surfing lessons. I couldn't anyone
who travelled with me to take the lessons with me, so I embarked on
this adventure alone. It all started on the beach with our boards. We
learned how to paddle, stand up,
turn and most importantly fall off. I had no clue what it was going to
be like while I
was paddling my way out to the waiting zone (waist deep water). My
instructor (Carney from Maui
Wave Riders)
said "OK, let's go! Ladies first!" I was the only girl in my group... I
didn't have a chance
to protest or hide... I was off on my adventure. Next thing I knew we
were waiting for my
wave when he yelled "go!" and off I went trying to remember everything
learned on the beach.
Head up, push up, on knees, right foot in front of left knee, twist and
stand! I DID IT! I managed to stay up, turn, and ride the wave back
in... then fall off completely lacking grace in any form, but wow it
was fun, exciting and way easier to get up than I thought it would
be. Now let's not forget they set you up not to fail, this was not big
waves or
small boards... it was beginners... but it was an amazing and fun
experience everyone
wanting a new adventure should try.
Indoor and
outdoor soccer!
I have been playing soccer
off and on since I was 9 and I hope to keep playing
for a very long time. I had to take a break a few years ago
when
I tore my ACL and medial maniscus (cartilage) but I am back at
it. I have been playing with the same indoor and outdoor team
for over 3 years now and I love it. My team
is very positive, supportive and sharing. No one hogs the
ball. It is a coed team and some of our best players are also
the
people who most try to get the other people (like me)
involved.
Flag Football
Last
spring (2008) I joined a flag football team. What fun! I had to join an
independant team which is a team of people who don't know each other.
We all got together and stumbled our way through our first season
together. We lost every game. At the end of the season we decided to
play again in the summer as the same team. Our team name was "NO
TOUCHING", we developed a zone defense, aquired team jerseys and
actually used plays. We just finished playoffs and we came out having
won some games! Tons of fun and new friends.
Recent adventures
include…
Playing
Women’s
Semi-pro Full contact Football for the Tacoma Majestics
(www.tacomamajestics.com),
which is part of the Independent Women’s Football League (www.iwflsports.com).
I played for one year and loved it. It was very time consuming and
being a full time teacher made it difficult to continue, but it was
well worth the year I did play. (I'm number 27 in the picture
below)
Participating in
triathlons:
I have now
done four triathlons and recently
signed up for another one. I also sign up to raise money for these
triathlons. Last year i raised money for the ovarian cancer research
fund. In my short time racing I have found out that biking is
probably my strong area. Out of a few thousand people i was
in
the top 12.5% for my time in the bike.
Future adventures that sound
fun are…
• Climbing Mt. Baker
• Competing in a Golf Tournament
• Kite surfing!!!
• Writing a book
• Publishing poetry
• Playing Ice or Roller Hockey
Note this is just a small sample of the current, past and future
adventures in my life.
